2005: How to participate
Participating in Centre County Reads is easy—there are only four steps, and the last two are
optional!
The first step is getting the book. Every year, local libraries and
bookstores stock up on the book chosen for Centre County Reads. Plus, you can always order online.

The most important step—read the Riding the Bus with My Sister!
We've also collected a list of fiction and non-fiction
companion books for readers of all
ages that relate to the themes of this year's book.
One of the benefits of reading one book as a community is that
there are lots of people ready to discuss the book with you.
How to run a discussion group: See
our Discussion Group page for
sample discussion questions, tips on leading a discussion, and
lists of other book groups meeting in the area.
Teachers: For ideas on incorporating this year's book
with your classes, see the
Riding the Bus with My Sister Literature Mini-Unit
(Word file), appropriate for students in Grades 7-9.
Check back at this website for details on events. We'll have a
kickoff event in fall of 2005, followed by other exciting events
related to the chosen book. Some of the highlights: In 2004
Lois Lowry visited to discuss The Giver, and in 2003 a
theatre group staged a production of To Kill a Mockingbird
inside the Centre County courthouse.
