"Our Walk in the Woods" Fundraiser and Celebration

Thanks to everyone who came to Barnes & Noble in State College on October 29 to hear local authors and hikers, plan for next year's Centre County Reads events, and raise money for CCR.

The day also featured children's story times and displays of artwork and journals from local hikers.

We held a drawing for prizes during the celebration, and also announced the prizewinners from all the people who entered the drawing during the Week of Walks in October.

The winners:

  • Ian Marshall won a Centre County Reads t-shirt, donated by Centre County Reads
  • Joel Mader won an Appalachian Trial Conservancy ATC Drawstring Pack—full of granola bars!—donated by Centre County Reads
  • Thomas Cook won an advanced copy of Field Guide to Wild Mushrooms of PA and the Mid-Atlantic by Bill Russell, donated by Penn State Press
  • Amanda Wilt won a copy of Deer Wars by Bob Frye and a Deer Wars baseball cap, donated by Centre County Reads
  • Kate Wilt won a photograph album donated by Barnes & Noble State College
  • Taylor Rees won a personal journal donated by Barnes & Noble State College
  • Sara Mueller won Living with Bears: A Practical Guide to Bear Country by Linda Masterson, donated by The State College Bibliophiles Club
  • Manisha Chapla won an Easy Watercolor Book & Gift Set, donated by The State College Bibliophiles Club
  • Art Shipkowski won a $20 gift certificate donted by Guiltfree Gourmet
  • Tommy Lower won a 1-pound bag of mixed candy donated by Happy Valley Candy in Ambassador Square
  • A. Lesk won a Mug and Coffee Gift Basket donated by Starbucks in downtown State College.
  • Eda Lesk won a $10 gift certificate donated by Weis Markets in Westerly Parkway
  • Kira Witmer, Judy Strouse, and Tony Doucette each won a set of three Pennsylvania-interest books donated by the Centre Daily Times. The books are Replays by Ron Bracken, Penn State Forever, A Photographic History of the First 150 Years, and the newly published 40 Years of the Joe Paterno Era.
  • Laura Lower won a boot and glove dryer, donated by Centre Country Reads
  • Stepahnie Shipkowski won a heated ice scraper, donated by Centre County Reads
  • Wendy Stapleton won a mini-journal donated by Barnes & Noble State College

Two local authors talked about their recently published books:

  • Ian Marshall discussed Peak Experiences: Walking Meditations on Nature, Literature, and Need.
  • Bill Russell spoke about Field Guide to Wild Mushrooms of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic at 3:30. Both authors signed copies.
