A Week of Walks, October 1 to October 8, 2006
—Across Centre County and Beyond
During the first week of October, organizations and individuals from across the
county led hikes of all levels, from easy to challenging, in a variety of
beautiful locations.
Centre County Reads would like to thank the Shaver's Creek Environmental Center,
the Centre Region Senior Center, The State College Bird Club, the Community Academy
for Lifelong Learning, the Mt. Nittany Conservancy, the Centre Region Parks &
Rec, and all our volunteer guides for their help.

Black Moshannon State Forest
This was a moderately challenginge, 6-mile walk through scenic forest trails.

Centralia Caravan.
A group walked in Bryson’s steps through
Centralia, a Pennsylvania community consumed by an underground mine fire.

Senior Center Hiking Group Nature Walk.
Everyone over age 50 was welcome to join the group for an easy walk on the Butterfly Trail.

An easy, 2-mile hike to spot birds, led by birder Nick Kerlin.

Bear Meadows in Rothrock State Forest.
State College Area High School Students and members of Community Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL) bridged the generation gap by hiking together. Kent Addis led the group on an enjoyable, level hike around a blueberry bog in Bear Meadows.

Walkers Win!
All hikers were eligible for prizes we awarded at the "Our Walk in the Woods" Fundraiser and Celebration. The event was held at the State College Barnes & Noble on Sunday, October 29.
