Nabe is a traditional Japanese meal that is sort of a hybrid of fondue and stone
soup. We made a simple version with a "dashi" stock and vegetables that
community members brought.
After we enjoyed the nabe, we sat back to watch one of the most engaging movies
ever made about Japanese tea ceremony, "Rikyu".
About the movie
Rikyu (1991) is a magnificent historical epic from Hiroshi Teshigahara
("Woman in the Dunes"), focusing on the tumultuous events surrounding the life
of Sen-No Rikyu, the revered advisor and tea master to the powerful Lord
Toyotimi in 16th-century Japan. Filled with sweeping battle scenes and moral
complexity, this is a film not to be missed. With Rentaro Mikuni and Tsutomu
Yamazaki. 116 min. In Japanese with English subtitles.
